Cyber Bullying VS Traditional Bullying

Posted by YoungMan | Bullying | Monday 30 November 2009 11:47 am

Bullying has long been a problem in school but was usually confined to the school yard or the hallway. Technology makes bullying even easier than it was before with email, chat rooms, and an unlimited audience online. There was a time when all bullying happened face to face but now with the internet, children can bully each other through popular communication methods even anonymously. Traditional bullies always had to let their victims see them and could only gain the support of friends who were around. Cyber bullies can humiliate, threaten, and belittle their victims without their identity being known, or they can have an audience of thousands. Cyber bullies are becoming more and more common as children use these communication methods more and more in their daily lives.

Cyber bullies can say things that they can not in front of other people in chat rooms, IM’s and on websites. This allows children to be much meaner than they traditionally could. Things that they could not say in front of adults and even other children are now easily said online. Cyber bullying is potentially an even bigger threat than traditional bullying because the potential for damaging statements is even greater. Traditional bullies could only reach an audience of the other children around, with the internet hundreds of children can gang up on a single child.

Cyber bullying is also easier to do than traditional bullying. All it takes is a few key strokes and a cyber bully can humiliate their target. Children are less inhibited when online and it is not as hard to bully when it is over a computer. Traditional bullies had to have the courage to physically bully another child or at least use comments to their face. Cyber bullies have to use much less effort and can be more impulsive.

Traditional bullies could only act out on their victims when they saw them. This confined bullying to school and places that children interacted face to face. Cyber bullies can bully others any time as cell phones and computers are both at home and at school. Traditional bullies could not hurt others at home, but with cyber bullies, home is usually where bullying occurs via the computer. This leaves no safe place for the targets of bullying to go as computers are essential nowadays for completing schoolwork and communicating with friends.

Even though emails and messages are easy to stop, cyber bullies is not as easy to stop as traditional bullies are. Derogatory and hurtful comments posted online and shared between people are impossible to stop and can potentially reach an unlimited number of people. Once a comment is posted online it can reach an unlimited number of people and the ramifications can be huge. Stopping a traditional bully was relatively easy with the right preventative measures, but the anonymous nature of the internet makes it impossible.

There are many differences between cyber bullies and traditional bullies but both types are serious issues. Bullying negatively affects both the bully and the victim and if not stopped can cause serious long term damage.

Safety for Yourself

Cardio kickboxing is practically an intense form of exercise. It results to sweating and at times it lets out a burning sensation. As a fat burning program, it is sure to let you sweat out. Therefore, there are a couple of safety tips that you must be aware of.

Take things easy. Kicking and punching should not be done overboard. Don’t display the amount of energy which your own physical ability doesn’t permit. For a first timer, it is important to watch out for your full kicks and firm punches. Be sure to use the proper positioning or else you may end up with injured muscles or broken bones.

Refrain from doing the consecutive kickboxing. If you want to be able to stay fit, start out with a weekly basis. Increase the frequency as you develop more resistance and agility. Avoid performing it twice in a day as it may do damage to your muscles, tendons, and joints.

Be guided. The best professional to turn to is a trainer. He will surely give you the vital pointers.

Warm up. To further save yourself from intense body pains, be sure to warm up for at least 10 minutes.

Don’t be too ambitious. If you are a newbie, remain humble. Never execute the moves which are beyond your own capacity.

By and large, kickboxing can be played by anyone who is willing enough to engage in proper training. Ensure that you follow these safety tips so that you may gain the abovementioned benefits.

Women?s Gymnastic Elements

Posted by YoungMan | Gymnastics | Saturday 28 November 2009 5:38 pm

The world of gymnastics offers several different elements for female athletes to participate in. While most meets or competitions combine a variety of styles together to determine an overall winner those who are simply interested in gymnastics as a hobby can study only those styles that they are interested in, and omit the others.

One of the most common styles or elements that comes to mind is the floor exercise. This is what most people think of when they consider gymnastics however; it is certainly not the only element. In the floor exercise, the gymnast performs a routine on a floor that is 12 meters square in size. The floor is specially created with carpet as well as foam layered onto the top of plywood that is suspended on springs to allow for a soft landing and extra force when doing flips and jumps.

Most floor routines are in the range of 70 to 90 seconds, with very few ever being longer because of the physical energy exerted during a routine. The routine is choreographed carefully to highlight the gymnasts? specific abilities and skills. In a typical routine, the gymnast will perform several passes from one corner to the other while stringing tricks together.

The second element is the vault, which involves sprinting quickly down a runway that is approximately 82 feet long or 25 meters and landing on what is called a beat board. This then propels the gymnast up onto the vault horse with their hands holding them on upside down, before springing off and landing on a separate platform without wobbling, or losing their balance. While in idea this sounds like a very simple task, this is a skill that can take a very long time to master. Many gymnasts will even attempt tricks while mounted on the vault, though this is generally not a requirement.

One of the most popular elements to watch is the uneven bars. These are two bars that are horizontal to the floor and set at different heights. The level of the bars is fixed so that they cannot come off, and the gymnast is safe to perform spins, circles, and various other moves on the bars. In common practice gymnasts will use a springboard to jump to the lower bar and begin their routine from there. In order to protect the hands as much as possible, most gymnasts wear leather gloves that are called grips, which also help to maintain the grip of the bars. In addition to using grips, many also use water and chalk to help maintain a secure grip of the bars. Using just bare hands is quite uncommon as rips and tears in the skin are possible and the occurrence of blisters is also high as well. Considered as one of the most advanced elements, young gymnasts are usually not permitted to perform on the uneven bars.

The final element for women is the balance beam. This is a routine that is anywhere from 60 to 80 seconds long and is carefully choreographed just as the floor routine to highlight the gymnasts abilities. Using turns, leaps and acrobatic skills the gymnast carefully performs on the bar that is 125cm off of the floor, 500 cm long, and only 10cm wide. This tends to be a highly advanced element because of the skills in balance as well as strength that are required from the gymnast.

Boxing A Taller Fighter

Posted by YoungMan | Boxing | Friday 27 November 2009 4:13 pm

The reason why fighters are divided by weight divisions is to prevent mismatches. But this doesn’t include the height. As long as a fighter tips the scale within the limit of his weight division, it really doesn’t matter weather he is tall and his opponent is small. So, if you are not a tall fighter, then there will be a number of occasions where you have to fight someone you literally have to look up to.

Boxing against a taller opponent possesses unique challenges. Definitely, his legs are longer, the reach advantage will go to his favor, and he can be a difficult target to hit since he can afford to stay farther than your striking distance.

At first look, you are in a complete disadvantage. But this doesn’t mean that you are doomed to lose. Remember that Mike Tyson fought much taller opponents throughout his career and still became a heavyweight champ.

There are actually several ways on how to deal with these disadvantages.

Reach ? Longer arms means your opponent gets in his striking distance before he can even get in yours. This is not a generalization but a boxers who knows that he has the reach advantage tends to stand back to play outside. So if you encounter this kind of boxer, cut that advantage as early in the fight as possible.

Outside fighter ? It gets pretty frustrating if your opponent chooses to play his fight and not get into yours. Here, you have no choice but to bring the fight to him. In order to defeat an outside fighter with a significant reach advantage, you have to stay close. This may mean taking one-two combination while coming in, but once you are inside, stay there.

Insight fighting ? Okay, you have decided to come in and in the process, receive some punches. Now it is at your hands to use everything in your arsenal to inflict as much damage as you can. Inside fighting is a style of its own and it will take years to develop the finesse and proper skill to become a good in this style. Still, you just have to remember a few things when dealing with taller opponent from the inside.

? First, since your opponent has longer arms, it is more difficult for him to throw short punches. Alternately, shorter arms gain more advantage in inside fighting.

? Second, never expose any of your vital organs. Inside fighting involves some uppercuts and punches on the sides. Keep your chin guarded with your gloves and your sides protected by tucking your arms as close to your body as possible.

? Third, do not hesitate to put your forehead on his chest. Doing this allows you to gauge your distance from your opponent, which will help you better judge the strength of your punches.

? Finally, keep throwing punches and if you can’t throw anymore, either clinch or get out as fast as you can.

Choosing to fight an inside game against a taller opponent must require total authority and decisiveness. Never walk into your opponent hesitantly. Explode into him, corner him, push him back, and punish him. Do not become an easy target.

As a smaller boxer, you should be quicker. Never move in a straight line. Weave, duck, move sideways or do anything that will make you an elusive target. If you succeed in these, you have better chances of winning the fight.

What to do if you Witness Bullying

Posted by YoungMan | Bullying | Friday 27 November 2009 12:23 pm

If your child witnesses bullying, it is a great time to tell them how they can help to stop it. Children who take a proactive approach to bullying will go long way to stop it from happening again. Make sure your child knows what to do if they see bullying, especially since they can be reluctant to tell an adult about it. The following advice is great for kids who have seen bullying and want to know what to do about it. Openly discussing how to handle the situation if your child witnesses bullying is a good way to give your child positive ways to deal with it.

Your child can probably imagine how they would feel if they were bullied. Most children can understand how much bullying can hurt, and also how hard it is to talk to someone. Make sure they know if they ever witness bullying that it is ok to tell an adult, and is actually the right ting to do. Kids may feel like they cannot tell an adult because the bullying will get worse but normally the bully will never find out and will be stopped. Telling an adult is the best way to stop bullying although there are things your child can do to help as well.

You should encourage your child to tell you, and the teachers or other adults that can help if they witness bullying. Tell your child that you, and all other school officials will be happy to help if they are made aware that a child is being bullied. Make sure your child knows that telling an adult about bullying is not like tattle tailing because bullying is a serious issue. Make sure that your child is not afraid to speak up if they witness bullying.

You should also tell your child that if they witness bullying a good thing to do is to support the child being bullied. Your child will probably be sympathetic towards the child being bullied and standing up for them, or at least spending time with them, will help to alleviate the bullying. You should not force your child to do so, but make sure they know that it is a good way to make a difference.

Your child should only stand up to a bully if they feel comfortable doing so. If your child witness bullying, make sure they know that they should stand up to the bully calmly and show them that their actions are not cool or funny. If your child does not feel comfortable doing this, make sure they know that it is ok as well. Sometimes it is best to just ignore the bullying attempts they witness and encourage the victim to do so as well.

Kids that witness bullying can do a lot to stop it by getting involved. Kids that witness bullying should not put themselves in the position to get bullied, rather notify an adult right away and if they feel comfortable doing so stand up for the bullying victim. Most kids will be willing to help in this way, especially if it is a friend who is being bullied.
